SBG Kuramono Katana Overview

The Kuramono ('Dark Thing') is the flagship blade in the Official SBG Professional Grade Katana line up - a true high performance martial arts grade Katana at a fraction of its true value.

Kuramono in saya

The solid bodied (non fullered) 2.45 shaku (29") hand forged and polished blade is made from high quality T-10 High Speed Tool Steel, chosen because of its relative tensile strength and scratch resistent properties (HRC 58-62 on the edge and 54-56 on the spine).

Kuramono

The blade has a full length nakago (tang) and is differentially hardened with a prominent natural hamon, and honed to be paper cutting sharp with a traditional 10 step sharpening process.

Kuramono hamon

The brass habaki is carefully fitted to the blade, which fits perfectly into a textured black saya with extra thick and hard wearing sageo.

Kuramono and habaki

The black "Mitsugahsira Hidari Tomoe" (left rotating triple commas) tsuba is made of solid iron for extra strength and durability.

Kuramono and tsuba

The tsuka is 11" long and perfectly friction fitted to the blade and secured with two top quality bamboo mekugi.

Kuramono and tsuba

The tsuka is extremely tightly wrapped (in the correct, alternating style) over real black rayskin with high quality synthetic silk ito that is actually TOUGHER wearing than REAL silk (but from an aesthetic sense is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing).

Menuki

The only color of the dark fittings is the silver colored (alloy) dragon menuki.

Made for both performance, aesthetics and durability - this is a Katana built to stand the tests of time.
