anyone ever bought from ryansword.com

(Oregon, USA)

I bought an Iado sword from Brandonsword.com or Ryansword.com, which are the same people. The sword I bought is supposed to be a 1060 high carbon steel blade. This sword was only about $65 USD but in Yen thats worth like 300 dollars so why can't you get a nice sword from China as long as it is made well. Has anyone else ever purchased a sword from this dealer and what is your take on the quality?

by:

I have had my sword for about six months now
its still strong, vary felxable and sharper then words can decribe.
It still cuts evry thing in its path as you wold expect a true katana to do.
Evry thing from plastic bottols,8" thick tatomy mats, and yes flesh and bone(like i sed evrithing)
I recomend you buy from the home site olny
ryansword.com(not a street vender or on ebay)
becouse thears a good chance your gitting a
cheep knockoff if you do.
To veiw my katana semply go to the home site

It was ok for the price i bought it for it was a sanmai blade with the differant steels (1095 and 1045) it lasted a bout 5 years of brutal punishment (by me) of cutting tree branches and many many bamboo sections tatami etc and one time I hit some bicks by accicent and it was ok but one time I got a little carried away and the blade snapped but what can I expect after I used alot
anyway it was ok:)

Ryansword Katana
by: SeaRat

I purchased a katana through eBay for about $30 or $35 (not
from Ryansword) because I spent military time on Okinawa
years ago and admire the culture. However, before it even
came in the mail I learned more about the art of sword-
making and realized that what I had bought was almost
surely sub-par and while I've had this for a couple of months I have yet to open the parcel and see the sword because I
saw a ryansword ad & bought a $750 model katana baded on
the stated manufacturing process. There was an embargo
going on at the time and so my sword had to be shipped by
sea and took two months to arrive. I said all that to say this:
This sword is beautiful. It is full tang, carbon, folded steel
niceness, sheathed in beautiful laquered wood, real rayskin
and silk wrappings, custom ordered fittings and a silk sword
bag all contained in a silk covered presentation box. I could
not be happier with this piece. It is my intention to someday
buy a 'Zatoichi' cane sword, and I surely now whetre I will
go to get it.

Pretty good sword, Haven't bought a lot of katanas honestly

Decent flex and tempering, springs back to shape easily, not overly stiff but need's a good bit of force to flex.

Great lacquered and shiny scabbard, fantastically light but hurts like a . . not family friendly word when getting hit with, could easily knock someone good and must weigh less than a pound.

Nice clean cuts through aluminum soda cans, no scratches. Decent thrusting, small chip on the point from accidentally hitting hard wood, completely cosmetic and doesn't affect the thrust in any way and too small to see from more than a few feet.

Blade will need a good sharpening fairly often. Comes sharp and well oiled with a nice looking sword bag. Unique and well protective hand guard.
