For some, battle ready swords are a passing phase in their sword collecting career. For others, a life long addiction!
Good battle ready swords are not all that hard to find - and the best part is, they are often not all that expensive. The only real requirements are a perfectly tempered sword made from decent steel (1060 carbon steel is ideal), is solidly constructed (peened if possible) and can pack a punch (for more information on the basics of what constitutes a good battle ready sword click here).
The thing is though, some are better than others - so let's take a look at my top three picks for the best value for money 'beaters from heck!'.
Avaialable for as little as $199 - the Albrecht sword by the Hanwei forge fits all the requirements, really well tempered and strong blade, solidly constructed (peened) - and big, bad and mean - but doesn't handle too badly and is based on a historical original!
While most big and mean battle ready swords are not fully sharpened, the Norman Sword by Generation 2 most certainly is, and while it is a one handed sword, it can deliver some seriously powerful blows, and is so well constructed you could probably hack a tree to pieces with it and all the fittings would stay nice and tight.
But my personal favorite is the Medieval Knight Sword by Darksword Armory (pictured below).
Indeed, while all Darksword Armoury swords are very much serious heavy duty battle ready swords, the Knight is my favorite - partly because it was my first Darksword blade (and oh boy did I test the heck out of it!) - but also because, despite being so incredibly tough, its actually pretty easy to handle!
