FIND A SWORD SYSTEM RESULT:

"I just want some ancient 'themed' swords that look super cool! Historical accuracy and functionality don't matter, it just has to look the part!"

If you are just looking for a good looking decorative ancient sword as a focal point in a room, perhaps a study or in the living room, there are at least a couple of decent swords to choose from.

At the 'cheap' end of town, most sword sellers stock at least a few generic decorative ancient swords for around $50 or so, but few of these actually look anywhere near as attractive in person than they do on the websites that showcase them, and are nasty, rattly things with poor casting, crappy looking fittings and are - quite simply - an utter waste of money.

The BEST decorative ancient sword is undoubtedly made by Denix and is typically priced at around $100, but available here at Kult of Athena for just $69.95 (plus they also sell some nice matching Denix hangers that can be used to mount it securely to the wall. And the main feature of Denix swords, apart from them being very ornate and well finished, is that the blades are cast from a metal alloy and cannot be sharpened, so are quite safe if you have inquisitive kids who might try to do so..

Interestingly, there isn't much in the way of better quality decorative ancient swords than this one. However, I am of the personal opinion that - unless you have pressing safety issues - a functional sword is a much better choice to display because (and we all know it) when friends come around and admire it, the first question they ask is "is it real?" and if you say "no", they kind of look disappointed and instead of being a conversation piece, everything just kind of falls flat..

As such, I'd like to make two more recommendations, the visually stunning Praetorian Sword by Valiant Armoury or slightly more expensive Celtic Sword by Kris Cutlery (pictured below).

Both are exceptionally attractive, emininently functional and make excellent display swords (though both are not particularily historically accurate, but that is not what we want them for.. If you do want some historically accurate ones click here for our recommendations).

Recommended Decorative Ancient Sword Reviews

"The Praetorian"
Valiant Armoury

4 Star Rating

PRICE: US$159 to $219

OVERVIEW: Incredibly well balanced, strong and extremely attractive - this is easily the most attractive tribute to a Gladius on the market at the sub US$300 point.

"Celtic Sword"
Kris Cutlery

5 Star Rating
PRICE: US$229 to $250

OVERVIEW:Not the most historically accurate piece on the market, but arguably the most beautiful and functional. Blade is extremely well shaped, durable and sharp. Highly recommended.

Otherwise, have a bit of a look through the rest of the reviews in our ancient sword section, or have a browse in the Ancient Swords category over at Kult of Athena for something that catches your eye - they have a very good selection at the most competitive prices around.
