The Heroes Sword is a reasonably cheap and surprisingly faithful replica of time travelling Japanese super geek Hiro Nakamura from the TV series, Heroes.

Being quite a fan of the show myself, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this replica is fairly close to the original seen in the TV show. Unfortunately though, despite being made by one of my favorite budget sword makers Musashi Swords – the final verdict has come down that it isn’t quite as functional is it is made out to be.

From an aesthetics point of view - it has the classic Paul Chen PPK sunburst style tsuba (which was the first thing I noted when I saw it on the show), and the curious golden logo in the center surrounded by imitation leather wrapping on the top and bottom of the handle.

Unfortunately, as you can see clearly from the images below – the wrap doesn’t stay looking like that for long...

The blade itself is actually pretty good though, with a very similar geometry as the Bushido Wind Dragon favourably reviewed here on SBG.

Sadly, it takes a turn for the worst again as even though it was previously sold at a reliable seller – Trueswords.com – they don’t keep it in stock now and the only sellers that do, often tend to have a rather shady reputation (so that if you have a problem with the wrap, you are on your own. If you even get the sword in the first place).

Fortunately, there is one final option for fans of the series looking for an authentic heroes sword...

And that is the heroes sword replica series by Global Gear – and exclusive selection of swords made to a much higher standard (though with a correspondingly higher price tag) such as the G-509 Hiro Nakamura Folded Steel Heroes Sword pictured below.

While this particular Damascus steel model doesn’t come with a hamon, there are others in the series that do, with a sword to fit every Heroes sword enthusiast taste and budget. And as you can see from the pics below, they are very functional – with a proper leather handle over genuine rayskin solving the looseness problems.
