Paul Chen Classic series Vs. elite series

QUESTION: I was just pondering what the difference beteen the Paul Chen tiger series and tiger elite series?

As far as I can tell the tiger elite series is shorter in overall length and the tsuba looks much nicer.

but what about the performance aspects of the blades.

Aslo it would be great if you can tell your thoughts on the paul chen Oni L6 bianite katana.

thank you very much
Malcom Davis

ANSWER: Hi Malcom,

The main difference is that the blade geometry of the elite series is slighly different, slightly wider and with slightly more niku (meat) than the original blade.

As you noted, there are also differences and upgrades with the tsuba and fittings of the Tiger Elite and the old version...

Overall, the new performance series are a big step up...

As to the L6, I actually haven't heard much on this one from anyone who actually owns one. I am a bit worried that, as this was the first generation of that sword, that they may not have got the process of creating these swords down perfectly... I may be unfounded, but I am fairly cautious...

Hope this helps.

- Paul

Have you heard of Dynasty Forge?
by: Caleb

Warning: the following contains EXTREME personal bias.

From scouring through the web, my personal conclusion is that, if you're going to pay THAT much for a sword: a folded, diff-tempered katana (I mean, that's the Tiger we're talking about right? Apologies if it turns out to be some non-folded stuff I've never heard of), you should have also seriously considered at least Dynasty Forge, and even Last Legend, in your decisions. As I have written, I am extremely biased, so I will not tell you ~why~ i prefer what. Instead, I highly recommend you to google and be informed of those alternatives and add these items into your consideration in the process of your decision-making.

And if you do get interested with Dynasty Forge, make sure you've read that review by...i forgot his first name...Someone Justice. AARON Justice! I think that's his name: his review on the Bushi line katana. And if you want to buy, the best places are either Swords of the East, or Arms of Valor (the latter of which, owned by Jason, has more cases of confirmed good reputation according to my knowledge)
