The Wallace Sword - Quite different from the one in the movie, but believed to be William Wallaces Original Sword

QUESTION

So I am insanely interested in getting a William Wallace sword.

From what I gather, there are only 2 even worth looking at, one made by Valiant Armory, and one by Generation 2. Does anybody have any words of wisdom about either, or maybe both?

ANSWER

It's actually a fairly accurare observation you have made there - while there are a lot of cheap William Wallace Claymores on the market, these are - as expected, very unsafe (with such a long blade and handle, there is simply too much that can go wrong!).

Windlass Steelfcrafts make a decently constructed one available here for $199.95, but the blade is a little on the saggy side (strong, and extremely well tempered, but not much use as a thruster..).

There is also a stage steel version here that is good for steel on steel contact, and under $200 as well.

But while in the sub US$300 market the best pick of available William Wallace swords would have to be the Gen2 - if you are willing to spend a little more (around $200 more), and have the patience to wait for it, the Del Tin Braveheart Claymore is truly the creme de la creme...

Wish I could say that there were more choices, but out of these 5 I would put my money on the Gen2 or the Del Tin, depending on your budget.

Or, for more options (that are probably more historically accurate) a google search on 'Claymore swords' may well turn up some other options...

Good luck, and I know how you feel about William Wallace Swords, I've got something of a soft spot for them as well (and while the movie was not very historically accurate, it was one of Mel Gibsons best and definitelty one of my all time personal favorites!).

WILLIAM WALLACE SWORD OF FREEDOM

The exact replica of the William Wallace sword of freedom is made in Britain by Macallen Armourers. This famous two-handed sword was used by William Wallace during his stunning victory over the English at the battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297.

The his sword is on 'my must have list' but, unfortunately, I haven't found the 'where withall' as yet. I do have the ROBERT THE BRUCE SWORD made byMacallen which I stumbled across on 'Trade Me' (NZ's domestic equivalent of 'E-Bay' etc)a couple of years ago and whih I picked up after 'battling it out' for five minutes before closing for about NZ$700 - a real bargain. It is a tremendous piece of work, believe me.

Slainte!

Wow you answered that right quick my friend haha. Thank you so much for the advice, I just wanted to make sure before i jumped into something i might regret. I guess the gen2 is worth the extra 100 bucks compared to the Valiant arms one, i was just hoping that for some reason the valiant arms sword might be just a great deal, but as usual you get what you pay for. Thanks again
